Thomas Billet Obituary

Thomas (Tommy)E. Billet

YORK - I, Thomas (Tommy) E. Billet finally checked out on August 22, 2025. Multiple bouts of pneumonia and COVID19 wrecked my lungs, and a heart valve replacement and pace maker could not keep my heart functional. Daily activities became a burden and I welcome my passing.

I was born to Wilson G. and Enice B. Billet on September 28, 1946 at West Side Osteopathic Hospital in York, Pennsylvania.

I am survived by my wife, Patricia (Patti) L. Ellsworth, daughter Marie L. Whitacre, Son Wayne Toomey, wife Charlote), grandchildren Darren (Dutch) and Ashley Toomey, and Jake Whitacre, (wife Jeanne), and my ever-present companion, Schmoozie, the cat. In addition to my parents, I was preceded by my wife of 40 years, Carmen L. Billet, in 2016.

I graduated from William Penn Senior High School (York High), class of 1964 and attended Penn State University at University Park, Pennsylvania. But my extensive education came from 12 years behind a bar. There is a lot to be learned good and bad by serving the public.

After my retirement, I delivered Meals-on-Wheels for two local Senior Centers, and transported patients for the Cancer Society to scheduled treatments.

I was a financial supporter of: DreamWrights Theatre for the Performing Arts, The Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Wounded Warriors, Disabled American Veterans, Doctors Without Borders, and many other social causes.

There is no scheduled memorial service. Leber Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Dover, PA has been tasked to deliver my remains to Hershey Medical Center for medical and educational disposition.

After cremation my ashes will be forwarded to the Chesapeake Bay for incorporation into the oyster habitat. I ate oysters from the Bay for seventy years and thought it was time to give something back.

I wish to express my heartfelt thank you to my wife, Patti, for her unwavering attention and love as I faced my demise. And finally, I leave you with the words of Edmund R. Murrow:

Good Night and Good Luck! Tommy
