Gertraud "Oma" Spangler
DOVER- Gertraud "Oma" Spangler, 88, of Dover, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025, at UPMC Memorial Hospital in York. She was the wife of Albert Spangler, Sr whom she married on June 13, 1957.
Oma, as she was known to family and friends, was born August 30, 1936, in Landshut, Germany the daughter of the late Karl and Amalie (Worle) Aicher.
She was a cook at Central Family Restaurant in York, where everybody knew her as "Mom". Oma loved gardening, vacationing with family, making her German potato salad for any and every family gathering or special occasion. Her passion was spending time with her family. She was a member of Alpenrose German Society, White Rose Polka Club, and the Shiloh American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
In addition to her husband, Oma is survived by her two sons, Albert Spangler, Jr. and his wife Karen of Strinestown and Karl Spangler and his wife Jill of Shiloh; her 5 grandchildren, Reeve, Logan, Isabella, Billy, and Jesse; 6 great grandchildren, Dillan, Will, Jenna, Emily, Zeta, and Ellie; a brother, Bert Aicher, and a sister Hilda Schneiter. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Hans, Karl, and Herbert Aicher, Molly Dintleman, Marrianne Spangler, and Annie Valach.
Her memorial service will begin at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Shiloh United Church of Christ, 2251 Willow Rd, York, Pa. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the time of the service. Officiating at her service will be Pastor Rick Pulling. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leber Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Dover, PA.
