George M. Ruth
YORK – George M. Ruth, 77, of York, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, May 17, 2025, at his home in York, PA. He was the husband of June L. (Jackson) Ruth.
George was born January 18, 1948, in Maryland and was the son of the late Edward and Hellen (Evanitus) Ruth.
He attended York Catholic High School in York, PA. He was employed by the 542 Union as an Operating Engineer. He was a member of the Dover Fish and Game, and West York V.F.W. Post 8951. George was avid sportsman and loved hunting fishing and just watching the animals.
His favorite was being Santa Claus for thousands of children over the years. Even on his final days he was still planning on going to a wedding in August and being Santa one more time. Since he couldn’t do much, his job was sitting on the porch waving at everyone that passed. Some knew him, some didn’t! He enjoyed watching the school kids getting off the bus. One of his last things to do was go to the casino. A few weeks ago, he went to Hollywood Casino and George hit the jackpot. He never did that before. All of his buddies have passed now, and he will be with them and his family. We just want you to know we love you and you were well loved by many other people.
In addition to his wife, George is survived by his sons, Keith A. Ramsay of Red Lion, PA, Paul W. Ruth of York, PA; his daughters, Tina L. Minnick and her husband Jerry of Felton, PA, and Connie S. Poff of Red Lion, PA; five grandchildren, Emily Ramsay, Sara Poff, Brittney Poff, Jared Poff, and Canon Lloyd, and one great grandson, Jaxon Poff. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Warren, Francis, and Edward, and his sisters, Mary, Margaret “Peg”, and Helen.
Georges’ funeral service will begin at 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Leber Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 47 North Queen Street, Dover, PA. His viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00 AM, Saturday at the funeral home. His burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Officiating at his service will be Reverend Katherine Seiler.
