Darlene L. Wetzel
YORK – Darlene Louise Wetzel, 80 of York, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Wellspan York Hospital in York, PA. She was the wife of Richard E. Wetzel, whom she married 63 years ago on August 26, 1962.
Mrs. Wetzel was born April 11, 1945, in York, PA. and was the daughter of the late W. Henry and M. Marcella (Zeigler) Riley.
In 1963 she graduated from William Penn Senior High School in York, PA. She was employed as a seamstress by Danskin in York for over 40 years before retiring in 2009. She was a member of the Viking Athletic Association in West York and Wolf’s Covenant Church in York, PA. Darlene and Richard enjoyed camping at Pinchot, Creek Air, Park-Away-Park, and Cedar Lake
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wetzel is survived by her daughters, Lisa Cooper and her husband Morris of Hanover, PA and Melody Zutell of Seven Valleys, PA, and her companion, Jim Staley of Spring Grove, PA; her son Richard Wetzel, Jr., and his wife Sabrina of Shiloh, PA; eight grandchildren, Heather Cooper, Jacqueline McFarland, McKenzie Zutell, Nicky Ford, Zachary Wetzel, Brianna Wetzel, Richard Ward, and Paige Berkheimer; three great grandchildren, Elijiah Bobbitt, Skyler Bobbitt, and Brayden McFarland and her sister, Karla Reed of East Berlin, PA. Mrs. Wetzel was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Joseph Zutell, her sister, Shirley Markle and her brother, Ray Riley
Her funeral service will begin at 11:00 Friday, August 29, 2025, at Wolf’s Covenant Church, 4501 Wolfs Church Road, York, PA. Her visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Friday at the church. Officiating at the service will be Pastor Eric Palmquest. Arrangements have been entrusted to Leber Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Dover, PA.
